There are barriers in everyday environments that can hinder a person’s ability to function optimally.  Examples include stairs that are no longer negotiable, a bathroom that has become difficult and unsafe to use or a space that does not allow freedom of movement for a person using a wheelchair.  Solving these problems requires knowledge and experience in rehabilitation medicine as well as skills in space planning and design.
